Medical Service First Response

Certificate II in Medical Service First Response

Program Description

This qualification reflects the role of first medical response workers or volunteers who provide initial patient care. These people offer basic first aid and emergency responses in the pre-hospital/out-of-hospital environment.

This program has been designed to equip the student with the necessary knowledge and skills to enable them to carry out basic first aid, encompassing a variety of conditions or injuries. It offers a practical/hands-on approach to first aid to improve patient outcomes.

This program is delivered to existing workers who demonstrate extensive industry experience and knowledge in the industry. Existing workers seeking delivery under this program would hold roles such as emergency response team members, supervisors, labourers, tradespersons and health and safety officers within the industry areas.

Individuals completing this program are generally required by their workplace to undertake formalisation of their knowledge and skills as a workplace role requirement; or are required to continue to update or meet legislated or regulated industry requirements and sites standards as set by industry and their employer.

The existing workers undertaking this qualification will be able to demonstrate competency through a combination of training and recognition of prior learning.
